Beatrice Deer at Club Balattou for Syli d'Or - Febuary 29th, 2012 at 9 p.m.

In Africa, "syli" means elephant, a symbol of wisdom, power, nobility and long life, values inherent to world music. Being the only animal without borders, the elephant symbolises the link between tradition and universal cultures.
Les SYLI D'OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE, is a unique and annual event initiated by Les Productions Nuits d'Afrique in 2007 which attributes honours created to encourage the development, the growth and the expression of world music artists and promote their music within the Canadian's musical industry. These distinctions emphasize the wealth and diversity of musical genres presented by highly talented musicians whose roots or influences lie elsewhere and who now make their music here. The SYLI D'OR event ensures world music artists of the greatest possible public exposure.
THE WORLD MUSIC SHOWCASE

Les SYLI D'OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE is also a great showcase for artists of world music, all selected by les Productions Nuits d’Afrique, well known leader in this field of activities. Even more, this event encourages the artist mobility by creating partnership with Canadian festivals that will program the finalists in their event.
THE PUBLIC VOTES!

Each Tuesday and Wednesday from February 21 to April 18, 2012 at Club Balattou, the public votes for the artist of his choice.F
The 9 bands that will have received the most votes will participate at the semi finales on April 24. 25 and 26 of April at Club Balattou. Assisted by a jury of music industry professionals, the 3 finalists will participate to the gala of the SYLI D’OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE on Thursday, May 3rd at Cabaret du Mile End and will be awarded with GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE SYLI and win prizes such as a live record, participation to Canadian festivals, guitar offered by Guitar Godin and many more!
