Beatrice Deer et Charles «Saali» Keelan - Biographie


Beatrice Deer et son époux Charles «Saali» Keelan sont des Inuits d'un village lointain appelé Quaqtaq dans l'Arctique québécois du Canada. Béatrice change depuis son adolescence et a voyagé à de nombreux endroits avec Saali dans le cadre de sa carrière musicale, y compris les Jeux olympiques de Vancouver 2010. Ils écrivent des chansons ensemble depuis 2003. Le première album de la chanteuse «Just bea» a été enregistré au Studios Qimuk (Qimuk Music Studios) à Kujjuaq et a connu des critiques élogieuses au Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards de 2005. L'enregistrement a gagné le prix dans la catégorie Meilleur album de culture inuite. Béatrice continue à plaire à des larges auditoires à travers tout le pays, y compris l'Assemblée Nationale du Québec lors de l'entente de principe pour le gouvernement régional du Nunavik. Le 25 janvier 2010, Béatrice Deer a lancé un album éponyme, où elle mélange musique contemporaine et le chant traditionnel de gorge des femmes inuites pour obtenir un son réellement unique. Elle a aussi accompli le rêve de sa vie en lançant un album de Noël en novembre 2010. Pour sa part, Saali est aussi un artiste solo ayant déjà 2 albums à son compte et un prochain qui sera lancé dans le cours de l'année 2012.


Beatrice Deer and Charles “Saali” Keelan– Biography

Beatrice Deer and her husband Charles “Saali” Keelan are Inuit from a remote village called Quaqtaq in the Arctic Quebec, Canada. Beatrice has been singing since her teenage years and has travelled to many places with Saali for their music including the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. They have been co-writing songs since 2003. Her first album “Just bea” was recorded at Qimuk Music Studios in Kuujjuaq was met with rave reviews at the 2005 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. The album won an award in the Best Inuit Cultural Album category. Beatrice continues to perform for audiences far and wide, including the Parliament of Quebec for the Agreement in Principal for the Nunavik Government. Her new self-titled album was released January 25, 2010. Her modern contemporary music mixed with ancient traditional Inuit throat singing is truly a unique sound. She also accomplished a life long dream to release a Christmas Album that came out in November 2010. Saali is also a solo artist with 2 albums and one coming out this year.

Beatrice Deer at Club Balattou for Syli d'Or - Febuary 29th, 2012 at 9 p.m.

In Africa, "syli" means elephant, a symbol of wisdom, power, nobility and long life, values inherent to world music. Being the only animal without borders, the elephant symbolises the link between tradition and universal cultures.
Les SYLI D'OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE, is a unique and annual event initiated by Les Productions Nuits d'Afrique in 2007 which attributes honours created to encourage the development, the growth and the expression of world music artists and promote their music within the Canadian's musical industry. These distinctions emphasize the wealth and diversity of musical genres presented by highly talented musicians whose roots or influences lie elsewhere and who now make their music here. The SYLI D'OR event ensures world music artists of the greatest possible public exposure.
THE WORLD MUSIC SHOWCASE

Les SYLI D'OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE is also a great showcase for artists of world music, all selected by les Productions Nuits d’Afrique, well known leader in this field of activities. Even more, this event encourages the artist mobility by creating partnership with Canadian festivals that will program the finalists in their event.
THE PUBLIC VOTES!

Each Tuesday and Wednesday from February 21 to April 18, 2012 at Club Balattou, the public votes for the artist of his choice.F
The 9 bands that will have received the most votes will participate at the semi finales on April 24. 25 and 26 of April at Club Balattou. Assisted by a jury of music industry professionals, the 3 finalists will participate to the gala of the SYLI D’OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE on Thursday, May 3rd at Cabaret du Mile End and will be awarded with GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE SYLI and win prizes such as a live record, participation to Canadian festivals, guitar offered by Guitar Godin and many more!
